Welcome to

The Official Webpage of the Canadian Railroad Historical Association E&N Division. We hope you enjoy browsing through our website!

The Esquimalt and Nanaimo Division of the Canadian Railroad Historical Association was registered as a society on September 18, 1997.

The purpose of the society is to acquire and maintain a rail museum, to reflect all aspects of railway transportation on Vancouver Island of: CPR, CNR, and industrial/logging railways; to acquire and maintain artifacts for the museum, to operate an excursion train, record the history of the railways on Vancouver Island, publish & disseminate information, and collaborate with other groups of similar interest.

The E&N Division CRHA has been instrumental in the organization of E&N Railway Days held, annually, in a township along the E&N Railway since 1997. The celebration is in recognition of the Last (Gold) Spike being driven by Sir John A. MacDonald, Prime Minister with a silver hammer on August 13, 1886 at 'Cliffside' station at Mile 25 on the E&N Railway near Shawnigan Lake,BC. This was very significant for it demonstrated the completion of the government's promise to British Columbia in joining confederation for a Trans continental railway that also included the Colony of Vancouver Island.

News

The E&N Division, CRHA, relocated from Victoria, to its new home at Parksville, BC in 2009. Our railway equipment is stored on the FMC spur behind the Recycle Depot. Our goals for 2012 are to maintain the right of way between Mile 0.0 at Parksville to Smith Road near Port Alberni at mile 33.0 of the Port Alberni Subdivision.

We plan to replace railway ties that need replacing, in the near future, once we can get a budget for funding.

Meeting locations are alternated between Parksville (at our caboose) and Victoria (at Four Mile Restaurant)Our meetings will now be held on the 2nd Saturday in January, March, May, September, and November *in Parksville* and on the 2nd Wednesday in February, April, June, and October *in Victoria*. There will be no meetings held in July, August, or December. Meeting start times at both locations is 11:00AM.

Drop by for a coffee and say hello.

We are always looking for new Volunteers and Companies to help with our ongoing Projects.

Lastly, we were planning on getting Heritage Status on the Wooden Trestles along Cameron Lake that have history to the Island and BC. We have put together a petition regarding this. Please Click Here to sign the petition, support our goals and help save these vital structures.
