About Us

The Esquimalt and Nanaimo Division of the Canadian Railroad Historical Association was formed in March of 1996 and registered as a society on September 18, 1997.

The purpose of the society is to acquire and maintain a rail museum, to reflect all aspects of railway transportation on Vancouver Island, to acquire and maintain artifacts for the museum, to operate an excursion train, record the history of the railways on Vancouver Island, publish & disseminate information, and collaborate with other groups of similar interest.

Society volunteers have helped restore rolling stock including our own ex-CN transfer caboose 76695, plus two ex-CP Boxcars, and Maintenance of Way equipment including a CPR baggage car, owned by one of the members.

Our team is a network of personal contacts and resources cultivated from involvement as members of railway associations and as employees active and retired from the rail industry. This resource base also includes an extensive inventory of equipment and contractors.

The E&N Division relocated from Victoria, to its new home in Parksville in 2009. Our Railway equipment is stored on the FMC spur behind the Recycle Depot.

In Parksville, we formed the East End Track Gang (EETG), a group of dedicated volunteers that maintain the track between Parksville and Port Alberni known as the Port Alberni Subdivision, in part with Alberni Pacific Railway (APR).

Our goals are to move to Coombs and  build a railway siding to store our rail equipment from Parksville. This project has been approved by ICF and APR and the siding will be installed by summer of 2016. Long term plans are to build a Railway Museum and run an Excursion Train.

We currently maintain the rail right-of-way between Mile 0.1 at Parksville to Loon Lake near Port Alberni at Mile 22.2 of the Port Sub. From Mile 22.2 to Mile 33.3 is joint volunteer work with the volunteers of APR. We maintain the railway infrastructure as best we can with the resources we have. We hope to receive a budget from ICF for our volunteer efforts.

Our meetings are held 4 times a year: in Feburary,May,August & November on the 2nd Saturday of the indicated month.  Meeting are held at Grace United Church next door to Goats on the Roof in Coombs,BC on Hwy 4a,at 11am.  Meetings can be rescheduled or cancelled do to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

Drop by for a coffee and say hello! We are always looking for new Volunteers and Companies to help with our ongoing Projects. Please join our membership! Dues are $20.00 per calendar year.

We look forward to working co-operatively with other societies, invite new members, and welcome donations to our division.
