Roundhouse Interpertive Centre Project
The E&N Division, Canadian Railroad Historical
Association, is working together with Roundhouse Properties
( Bay View ) in hopes that our Division will have a home at
the site at 253 Esquimalt Rd, Victoria, BC, Canada as a
Railway Interpretive Center. The Roundhouse Interpretive
Project will form a community based area where the public
can visit to learn the history of the Roundhouse site and
the E&N Railway and the Industries the railway served.
Construction of the Roundhouse was started in 1912 and
completed in 1913, and is the only Roundhouse in Canada,
west of Ontario, that is still fully intact and standing,
with yard trackage, operating turntable, car shops, and
stores building. This structure has a car shop with drop
pit, for fixing wheels, and overhead crane in roundhouse, a
great building for steam and diesel locomotive repairs and
servicing. With development, on the site, Roundhouse
Properties have stated that all historical aspects of the
site will be carefully preserved during development and a
rail interpretive centre would rotate displays rather than
static pieces of equipment being shown, so each month a new
item of rail equipment would be on display.
We work very closely, with other railway groups, that
also support rail history.
The E&N Division, CRHA is a non profit group.
If you support a Rail Interpretive Centre and wish to
send a support letter or make a corporate, personal, or
estate contribution, to this rail project, please contact
